Romy is a singer-songwriter from Rotterdam who has been making music since she was fourteen. First discovered at the Hofpleintheater, she was accepted straight into the pre-conservatory Music & Dance program, where she trained as a singer-songwriter, musician, and producer.
From her teenage years on Rotterdam's stages, she went on to work with acclaimed musicians and producers across the Netherlands: performing with rock band Intwine, writing with bassist Touché, playing shows with Postmen, co-writing with Remon Stotijn, and collaborating with producer Jack Shirak.
Her voice was striking and unusually mature from the start, but without the right guidance, it proved fragile too. Multiple operations on her vocal cords and years of rehabilitation followed. What emerged was a deep, hard-won understanding of her own instrument, one that shaped her not just as a singer but as a songwriter and artist.
For the singles Wasteland, Depth, and Space and Time, she teamed up with guitarist and producer Angelo de Rijke, known for his work with Anouk, Acda en de Munnik, and Guus Meeuwis.
After years of shaping her sound to meet others' expectations, Romy chose to follow her own path. As an independent artist, she now writes, composes, and produces her own music, building a distinct visual world around every song.
Drawn from film, literature, photography, and life itself, her sound blends blues, rock, soul, pop, and country into something both contemporary and timeless. The raw honesty of Amy Winehouse, the spirit of Fleetwood Mac and Gorillaz, and the fearless production instincts of Rick Rubin all leave their mark, filtered through her own voice.
Warm and textured, unmistakably hers, Romy's voice and poetic lyrics pull listeners into a world of emotion, vulnerability, and imagination.
Since her debut EP The Truth for Paradise, she has released the singles Wasteland, Space and Time, Depth, and most recently Rabbit Hole, each paired with its own visual identity. She is now developing a powerful live show and writing new music, inviting audiences to join her on the journey.
